伊利诺大学(简称siuc)由两所大学组成，卡本代尔(carbondale)大学是较大的一所。该分校成立于1869年是一所历史悠久的综合性公立大学，占地达3290亩，其中981亩已被用作大学校舍及校园之用。该校最好的学科是商科管理、工程和传播学，师范教育也有相当多学生修读。前一两年共有17,820人投考，录取率为64%，并不太难考取。现有在校学生23000多人，其中研究生近2500人。
